IRS won't accept returns before Jan. 30
The IRS has some bad news for anyone hoping to get their tax refund early this year, to cover holiday shopping bills.
Spokesman Christopher Miller says because of the fiscal cliff bill that Congress passed earlier this month, the agency has to make some last-minute tax code changes. He says they won't start accepting returns until January 30.
Miller says taxpayers who are claiming residential energy, depreciation of property, or general business tax credits will have a longer wait. He says it may take until March for the IRS to be ready for them.
