Fox Cities trees have $5 mil impact

A DNR study shows roadside trees have a nearly $5 million economic impact on the urban areas in the Fox Cities.

Kimberly Miller is an assistant urban forestry coordinator. She says they only focused on the trees that are between the roads and sidewalks, in eight local communities. Miller says the benefits range from keeping rainwater out of storm sewers, to lowering utility costs, and increasing home values.

Miller says the benefits from trees are actually much greater, because they didn't include trees on private property.

A similar study found that trees have an impact of more than $6 million in the Green Bay area.
