Menasha schools set April referendum
The Menasha school board is going to put a building referendum before voters in April, to make improvements to the high school.
Members unanimously agreed to ask for nearly $30 million to renovate and expand the facilities.
The district held a survey on two project options last year, and Superintendent Bob Kobylski says they based the proposal on the less-expensive option. He says they did add a science wing to that option.
Kobylski says the existing high school is about 80 years old, and they need to replace some of the infrastructure, including the electrical, and heating and cooling systems.
In last year's survey, 54 percent said they would probably or definitely support a referendum in the $26 million to $30 million range. Thirty-two percent said they would probably or definitely oppose it.
The referendum will be on April 2. If voters approve it, the property tax rate would climb by 78 cents per $1,000 of value. That means the owner of a $100,000 home would pay an additional $78 a year.
