Brown Co. made more drug arrests in 2012
The Brown County sheriff's department saw a 16
percent increase in drug-related arrests last year.
Lt. David Poteat says narcotics, like heroin, and prescription drugs, are becoming more popular. He says they seized more than three times as much heroin in 2012, and prescription drug totals were up nearly 50 percent.
Poteat says they're also seeing more so-called "analogue drugs" that are chemically similar to real drugs. He says they actually have more side effects, and some young people in the area developed long-term damage that's similar to a stroke.
The Task Force made more than 600 arrests last year, and they seized over $1.5 million worth of drugs. They also confiscated more than $575,000 in cash.
