DNR holding 1st free ice fishing weekend

Every year, the DNR gives people a chance to go fishing, for free, over a weekend in early June, and now the agency is adding a second weekend, during the ice fishing season.

Fisheries biologist Steve Hogler says people can head out tomorrow and Sunday, and they don't need a license.

The Legislature created the free winter weekend, last year, to generate more interest in the sport.

The DNR says more than 590,000 people, 16 and older, go ice fishing in Wisconsin.
