Groups call for amendment on campaign spending

Campaign spending in Wisconsin tripled in the last two-year election cycle, and some groups are calling for a constitutional amendment to reign in that spending.

Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign calls the Citizens United decision "an unmitigated disaster" for the country and the state. He says the Legislature should put a referendum on the ballot, in response to the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Yesterday marked the third anniversary of the Citizens United decision.

McCabe says while the spending totals include the unprecedented recall races, without them, the amount of money in campaigns still doubled.

WISPIRG and the Center for Media and Democracy released a study today, on the impact of the high court ruling.
