Vos opposes hike in gas tax
A proposal to raise the gas tax by five cents a gallon might be dead-on-arrival.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he would oppose the recommendation of a special panel that looked at various ways to increase revenues for transportation projects.
The Transportation and Finance Policy Commission is also calling for a mileage-based registration fee, and Vos says he doesn't like that idea either.
The panel unanimously approved its final recommendations today. They include a $20 increase in the cost of a drivers license, higher heavy truck registration fees, and the elimination of the sales tax exemption for vehicle trade-ins.
Members are calling on Governor Walker and Majority Republicans to seriously consider their proposals.
