Cowles seeks changes in 'double dipping' rules
A lawmaker from Allouez says it will likely be more
difficult in the future for state employees to "double dip."
Republican Sen. Rob Cowles is the co-chair of the legislature's audit committee. He says a recent audit shows that over a five-year period, about 2,800 people retired, and then returned to their public sector job, while collecting a pension.
Cowles says the current 30-day waiting period for retirees to return opens the door to abuse, even though it's illegal to work out an arrangement ahead of time. He says the audit committee agrees that there needs to be a longer waiting period.
Cowles says he thinks they'll be able to reach an agreement on some changes in the coming months.
