Gulf War Syndrome showing up in new vets
Gulf War Syndrome is showing up in veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Outagamie County veterans service officer John Lidonne says the illness surfaced in the 1990's, after soldiers came home from the first Gulf War. He says the symptoms include gastro-intestinal problems, chronic joint pain, and memory loss.
Lidonne says it's still not clear what triggers the disease but soldiers in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were exposed to depleted uranium, anthrax shots, insecticides, and sand particles.
He says some recent veterans are coming into his office with symptoms, but the numbers haven't been very high, so far.
