Man gets buck's rack back after theft case

More than two months after he shot a trophy deer, a Menasha man has both halves of the buck's rack back.

Kelly Sokel went to a Menasha bar, after he shot a big eight-pointer during the opening week of the gun hunting season.

DNR warden Ryan Propson says he apparently got into an argument with two 35-year-old Menasha women, and they wanted to get back at him. He says they went outside, dragged the deer from Sokel's truck, and ran it over with their car.

Propson says half of the rack broke off, but the deer got caught, under the car. He says they drove two blocks, before realizing they were dragging the animal.

Propson says the women called a friend, and they decided to dump the deer in the Fox River, at Jefferson Park.

The DNR fined Cristi Sturgis and Stacy Gengler $2,100 each, for "larceny of wild game." 27-year-old Matthew Long was fined $260 for helping dump the deer.

Propson says he got a call last week, after someone saw a washed-up deer, along the shoreline of the river. He says Sokel was able to get the other half of the rack. Propson says Sokel already had the half of the rack that broke off in the parking lot.
