Former congressman Green gets new job

A former lawmaker from the eighth congressional district now hopes to help African countries, through a private sector development group.

Mark Green is the new CEO of the Initiative for Global Development. He also spent time as an ambassador to Tanzania, and he says many African countries lack quality roads and other infrastructure. He says American companies can help, while also making connections in a new market.

Green says they could also reduce the number of countries that harbor terrorists, because countries with the tools to create a stable government are better able to keep extremists away.

He says some large American companies are already getting involved in the effort.

Green spent eight years in Congress, and he made an unsuccessful bid for governor, in 2006.
