WIAA reacts to rule on disabled athletes

The WIAA isn't sure exactly what impact a U.S. Department of Education directive will have on athletic programs.

The federal agency says schools need to include students with disabilities in their sports programs, or provide equal alternative options.

WIAA spokesman Todd Clark says they've had a similar rule in place since 1985 that deals with non-descrimination in sports. He says he believes that covers it.

But Clark says until they talk about the issue more, he's not sure if things will continue, as usual, or if they'll need to address something. He says they're going to provide information on the ruling to all school districts, so they know what's going on.
