Ellis urges caution in spending surplus
A local lawmaker says the Legislature needs to think carefully, before spending a projected $485 million budget surplus.
Sen. Mike Ellis says he wants to see some of the money go toward an income tax cut. But the Neenah Republican says the tax cut can't be too big, because that could lead to a structural deficit.
Ellis says he does not want the money to go into a rainy day fund, because lawmakers tend to use it irresponsibly.
Ellis says some of the money should help fund medical assistance programs, and public schools.
