Massive fire damages Burlington plant
Firefighters from about 80 departments in southern Wisconsin battled a massive fire overnight, at a plant in Burlington.
Fire Chief Richard Lodle says Echo Lake Farm Produce plant has 70,000 square feet.
About 50 people in nearby homes and apartments were evacuated for the eight-alarm fire last night, but they were able to return this morning.
Firefighters worked in five-hour shifts, because of the cold weather. Lodle says it was difficult to get the fire under control, because there have been a number of additions to the building.
Burlington Mayor Bob Miller says the plant is one of the city's largest employers.
Workers make egg products and breakfast entrees at the plant.
