Union: Emails create rift with corrections leader
Union officials say a controversial email sent to state corrections workers by the department's new secretary is part of an emerging pattern of intimidation.
Secretary Ed Wall told employees last Monday that he won't tolerate people spreading rumors about the agency, and anyone caught doing so could be fired. It was in response to rumors that the department might privatize some operations, or open a new prison.
Marty Biel is the leader of the union that represents corrections workers, and he used to work in the department. He says the email is out of line.
Biel says that letter wasn't the first time that Secretary Wall ruffled feathers. He says the rift with employees started after Governor Walker appointed Wall to the position last month. Wall told workers in an email that if they're not happy, they should find a new job.
