Neenah roundabout also a trouble spot
A report found that roundabouts in the Oshkosh area are still among the most accident prone spots in the city, and in Neenah, a multi-lane roundabout is the city's worst intersection for crashes.
Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says typically, planners build roundabouts at intersections with high accident rates. He says if they can't reduce them, they hope to at least cut down on the severity of injuries.
Wilkinson says most people are pretty used to the single-lane roundabouts, but drivers can still be confused with the multi-lane ones. He says the one at Winneconne Avenue and Green Bay Road is the top spot for accidents in Neenah.
Wilkinson says it was tough early on, when Breezewood Lane was closed, and a lot of drivers used the roundabout. He says the accident rates have declined since then, but it's still a troubling intersection for police. He says it hasn't been as efficient as the other ones, in managing the traffic.
