Survey: Local businesses optimistic

An annual survey of local businesses shows most are optimistic about the economy in the Fox Cities.

The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce unveiled its findings, during its Economic Outlook Breakfast this morning, in downtown Appleton.

Larry Burkhardt is the director of the Appleton Regional Partnership, and he says in recent years, the projections have been pretty close.

Nearly 44 percent of companies expect to add to their workforce this year, while 54 percent predict they'll stay the same. Only 3 percent are looking to reduce their staff. He says 29 percent are planning a capital expansion project.

Not all of the results were positive. Burkhardt says 45 percent are concerned about the availablility of qualified workers.

Nearly 77 percent believe the Fox Cities is a better place to do business than other similar-sized communities.
