WTA reacts to sales, income tax idea
It's unlikely that the idea of eliminating the income tax, and significantly raising the sales tax in Wisconsin, will become a reality.
That's according to Todd Berry of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.
He says it's possible lawmakers could come up with a compromise, to lower the income tax, and offset it with a more modest sales tax hike. Berry says it's a discussion that's worth having.
Earlier this week, a top aide to Governor Walker floated the idea of dropping the income tax, and boosting the sales tax to 13 percent. The governor says it's something he could consider in the future.
Berry says there certainly is room for change in the state's tax system.
