Baldwin urges Walker to expand Medicaid

A decision on whether to expand Medicaid coverage in Wisconsin is looming, and the state's new U.S. Senator is weighing in.

Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin of Madison says Governor Walker should accept the federal funding.

Last week, the governor said he's skeptical that the federal government could hold up its end of the deal, over the long term. But Baldwin says other Republican governors aren't playing games with the issue.

Baldwin says the expansion would provide coverage to as many as 250,000 low- and moderate-income adults.

The federal government would cover all of the costs for the first three years, and then the state would have to start pitching in a small percentage.

A non-partisan report shows the federal government would spend almost $4.4 billion, over the first seven years.
