Oshkosh city hall preparing for stormwater project
Portions of Oshkosh tend to flood whenever a thunderstorm rolls through, and an underground storm water storage tank in the city hall parking lot could keep that part of the city dry.
City engineer James Rabe says officials determined that buying land for a surface pond was too expensive, so building the tank under an existing parking lot was the best option. Construction is expected to start next month.
He says the tank will hold as much water as some existing ponds.
The project will lead to a parking shortage around city hall until November.
The city council is expected to formally approve the construction tonight.
