Lawmakers trying to close house party loophole
A 2008 state Supreme Court decision has two lawmakers from northeast Wisconsin trying to close a perceived loophole in Wisconsin's underage drinking law.
Republican Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere says the issue centers on the word "premises." He says the high court's narrow intrepretation of that word means state law still bans underage serving at bars, but creates a loophole for underage drinking parties at homes.
Democratic Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber of Appleton is cosponsoring a bill to include the word "property" in the law, to close the loophole. She says many local governments already closed that loophole in their jurisdiction, but she thinks it needs to happen on the state level.
