Walker pursuing alternative to Medicaid expansion
Governor Walker is turning down federal money to expand Wisconsin's Medicaid program.
The governor announced yesterday that he, instead, plans to tighten eligibility requirements for BadgerCare and shift more people to the federal health insurance exchange. Walker says that approach will shrink the number of uninsured adults in Wisconsin by almost 50-percent.
Walker says his plan empowers people to become self-reliant, instead of permanently depending on a government handout.
Walker says he turned down the Medicaid expansion because he doesn't think the federal government will honor its commitment to provide long-term funding.
