F.R. Academy students restoring ravine

A ravine in Pierce Park is being cleaned up, thanks to the work of some Appleton students.

Seventh and eighth graders at the Fox River Academy charter school started refurbishing the former city dump in 2011.

Student Olivia Hall says they're restoring a wetland, and putting in nests for cliff swallows.

Students are also removing invasive plants, and any garbage that people dumped in the ravine, over time.

Ruqiya Guled says it will be an on-going project that future generations will have to continue.

The students are also using old railroad ties, that were in the ravine, to build stairs.
