Walker dumps delay of Hwy. 10-441 work
Governor Walker says he's committing an extra $824 million in the next budget for transportation projects.
He made the announcement this morning, at the department of transportation's Green Bay office. Walker says he won't raise the gas tax, or vehicle registration fees, to pay for the increase.
Walker says his budget also keeps the reconstruction of the Highway 41 interchange with Highways 10-441 on schedule, as well as the Highway 15 bypass of Hortonville.
Rep. Dean Kaufert of Neenah says he's pleased that the governor didn't honor a DOT request to delay those projects. Kaufert says he stressed the importance of the interchange reconstruction to Walker.
Construction could start as soon as 2014.
Overall, the governor's proposal would spend $6.4 billion on transportation projects, over the next two years.
