Hansen pushing for Medicaid funding
Supporters of the Medicaid expansion, under the
federal health care reform law, hope Republican lawmakers will shoot down Governor Walker's plan to provide health insurance to more low-income adults.
Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay says accepting the federal funding would be the best deal for state taxpayers. He argues the governor made a political decision to try to placate everyone, instead of taking care of people in the state.
Hansen is responding to the governor's skepticism that the federal government wouldn't be able to hold up its end of the deal, over the long term.
Governor Walker wants to extend coverage to more low-income adults by shifting some people from BadgerCare to the federal health care exchanges. He says that would open room for others to sign up for BadgerCare, without having to accept the federal money.
