Appleton will use FVTC program soon

In about a year, Appleton police hope to have a new tool to help investigate child pornography.

Fox Valley Technical College developed a computer program that uses Google Maps to track offenders, and Sgt. Polly Olson says they've been trained on a portion of it.

She says they've worked with instructors at the school over the years, to become more efficient while they're working undercover, in chat rooms. Olson says it's difficult to track people from our area.

Olson says she's excited about Fox Valley Tech's new technology. It points out the location of users of known child pornography websites, and people who trade illegal images. Investigators also see the computer's IP address, so they can follow up on the case.
