Part of Harrison to become a village
There's going to be a new village in the area.
Voters inside the proposed borders overwhelmingly approved a referendum to turn a portion of the town of Harrison, into a village. Ninety percent said yes to the incorporation.
Town administrator Travis Parish says the village and town will work closely together, so he doesn't think the average person in either municipality will notice a difference.
Parish says the state will have 10 days to recognize the new village. He says after that, they'll have to put a village board in place.
Right now, the village will be known as "Harrison," but Parish says it's possible the future board could consider a different name, like Darboy.
Leaders of the incorporation effort wanted to protect the property tax base from annexations by surrounding communities.
