DPI leader warns of dramatic school cuts
Mass layoffs and program cuts could be coming to school districts across the state, if lawmakers don't make significant changes to Governor Walker's proposed budget.
That's the feeling of state superintendent of schools Tony Evers.
Evers outlined some of the changes he's seeking, during a visit to Kimberly high school yesterday afternoon. He says they need to raise the revenue limits, and increase per-pupil spending.
Evers toured Kimberly's career and technical education program. He says those kinds of programs are crucial to fixing the state's skills gap for manufacturers. But he says they're also expensive, and they could be among the first items to go, if budgets get too tight.
