Payroll tax hike, gas prices hurt spending
Consumer spending is down since the social security payroll tax cuts expired, and a local financial planner says that's a natural response.
Christina Winch of Winch Financial in Appleton says people are seeing less take home pay, and an increase in gas prices. She says they're also skittish because of the recent recession.
Winch says Republican and Democratic lawmakers need to work together to reassure consumers.
Winch says the payroll tax increase was relatively modest, and she believes people will begin spending again, once they adjust.
