Sturgeon totals up very slightly
Sturgeon spearers had a little better success this season than a year ago.
The season came to a close yesterday afternoon, and the DNR reports that spearers registered 567 fish from Lake Winnebago and the upriver lakes. That's one more than last year.
The upriver lakes season ended almost two weeks ago, but it continued on the big lake for the maximum 16 days.
The DNR registered 306 sturgeon from Lake Winnebago, and that's down from 324, a year ago. The agency says 9-1/2 percent of them weighted more than 100 pounds, and that's a record.
Spearers had to deal with water clarity issues on Winnebago this year.
