Cowles: Don't fight 'double dipping' in budget
A lawmaker who's leading the charge to make it more difficult for public employees to double-dip, doesn't want the issue
included in the state's budget.
Sen. Rob Cowles says people are gaming the system that allows employees to retire, and come back to their old job, while receiving retirement benefits. He says the current waiting period doesn't discourage the employer and employee from making rehire agreements, before the employee leaves.
Governor Walker included a 75-day waiting period in his budget proposal, but Cowles wants to take up the issue as a standalone bill. The Allouez Republican says he'll fight to remove it, and other policy items, from the spending plan.
Cowles says he'd like to extend the waiting period to between 75 and 100 days.
