Appleton school vying for environmental award
An Appleton school is one of four in the state, competing for national recognition, for its environmental work.
State officials announced today that the Fox River Academy is in the running for the Green Ribbon award. It goes to schools that promote sustainability, offer health and wellness programs, and promote student activity in the community.
Joann Engel is a teacher at the charter school. She says the students are working on a forest rehabilitation project at Pierce Park, and they spend a lot of class time outdoors. She says the school also has an in-depth recycling program.
Engel says it's an honor to be nominated for the award. Winners will be announced on April 22.
