Walker defends 'double dip' budget provision
The governor is standing by his decision to include a
provision on "double-dipping" in the state budget.
Right now, public employees can return to their old jobs, while collecting a paycheck and their retirement benefits, after 30 days.
Governor Walker wants to increase the timeline to 75 days, through a measure in the budget.
Republican Sen. Rob Cowles of Green Bay is leading the effort to extend the waiting period, but he believes the issue should go before the Legislature, as a stand-alone bill.
Governor Walker argues that it has a fiscal impact on state and local governments, so it makes sense to talk about it, as part of the budget.
The issue came up more than a year ago, when a UW-Green Bay administrator returned to his job after a brief retirement.
