Senate passes workforce development bill
A package that lawmakers hope will help job seekers, and
employers, is moving forward at the Capitol.
The Senate unanimously approved the proposal yesterday afternoon. It includes grants for worker training programs, and a new database that would track job vacancies and link unemployed and underemployed workers to those openings.
Republican Sen. Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac is a co-author of the bill, and he says it's a solid marriage between the public and private sector.
The department of workforce development would be able to hand out up to $15 million in job training grants over the next two years. In order to qualify, public or private groups would have to provide matching funding.
The Assembly overwhelmingly endorsed the bill last week, and it now goes to Governor Walker for his signature.
