Woman raped, robbed in downtown Appleton
Police say a woman was the victim of a random
attack in downtown Appleton this morning.
Sgt. Dave Lund says a 23-year-old man dragged the woman into a parking lot, in the 300 block of N. Appleton Street, around 2 a.m., after hitting her numerous times. He says the man raped and strangled her, and ran off with her purse, when someone drove into the parking lot.
Lund says they arrested Perry Hulbert after an officer noticed that a car was circling the area, and he followed the driver out of the downtown. After seeing an equipment violation, the officer pulled the driver over, and Hulbert was a passenger.
Lund says Hulbert matched the description of the suspect, and he gave police a fake name. He says they found the victim's wallet in the car.
Hulbert is in the Outagamie County jail on a series of charges. He was out on bond, for robbery charges, in Winnebago County.
Police are asking for help in finding the victim's brown, Coach purse.
