Tribal leaders vow to fight iron-ore mine
A Wisconsin Native American tribe is determined to stop the mining law.
The head of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa says he'll use "every avenue of resistance" in his efforts to stop a proposed iron-ore mine from being built upstream from his tribe's reservation in northern Wisconsin.
Mike Wiggins says his tribe is ready to use lawsuits, its federal water quality powers, and a "vigorous grassroots effort" to stop Gogebic Taconite from mining in Ashland and Iron counties.
Wiggins says a mine could create severe environmental damage.
