GOP lawmakers pushing fetus protection bill
A proposal from a De Pere Republican would extend the state's wrongful death, and medical malpractice standards, to unborn children.
Rep. Andre Jacque is working with Sen. Glenn Grothman of West Bend on the bill. Right now, the family of a dead child can file a wrongful death suit, but Jacque says it doesn't apply to fetuses that are lost during the early stages of pregnancy.
Jacque says in the criminal justice system, people can face charges, if an unborn child is killed. He says 11 other states have civil court protections in place, for fetuses.
