Governor signs mining bill into law
Governor Walker paved the way for a new iron-ore mine
in northern Wisconsin yesterday, when he signed a bill to streamline the state's permitting process for mines.
The governor says the mine in Ashland and Iron counties could create thousands of jobs across the state, and he's confident that it will survive a court challenge. Walker says he's not surprised that the law will end up in court.
Walker says he's confident that opponents, who claim that a mine will lead to pollution in a pristine part of the state, will be proven wrong.
A recent poll shows most people in Wisconsin oppose the mining bill, and Walker blames the negative public opinion on misinformation.
