Conclave starts to pick new pope
The voting process to choose a new pope starts today,
and a local religious studies professor says Pope Benedict's successor should be in place by the weekend.
St. Norbert College professor Tom Bolin says he highly doubts that a papal candidate will get the necessary two-thirds support in today's initial vote. He says he expects to hear that the cardinals have elected a new pope tomorrow or Thursday.
He says two things will signify that they've made a decision. The first is white smoke, coming from a chimney in the Sistine Chapel. He says they also ring the big bell at St. Peter's.
Bolin says the Conclave will officially start between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., our time, this morning.
