Bike lane plan nixes parking on Mason St.
There are plans to add bike lanes along the entire
stretch of Mason Street in Appleton, and the proposal eliminates on-street parking.
Traffic engineer Eric Lom says there isn't enough room to allow parking on just one side. Right now, people can park on both sides of the street.
The city sent a letter to homeowners, and the municipal services committee will talk about the proposal this afternoon.
Lom says Mason Street is one of the crucial pieces to Appleton's long-term bike lane plan. He says they don't want to create another situation like the one on Capitol Drive on the northeast side. He says they included parking on one side of the street, and the various lanes on the street are too cramped.
