Proposed tech academy clears hurdle
Plans for a charter school to focus on
manufacturing jobs are moving forward in Appleton.
The school board approved the concept of the Appleton Technical Academy last night. Organizers will now be able to apply for a state planning grant.
Paul Lindberg is a tech ed teacher at Appleton West. He says they recently went to the Racine and Kenosha area to see how a charter school works there. He says it's a partnership between the schools, and the technical college in that area to provide instructors for certain classes.
Lindberg says some administrators also went to Boston to see how schools on the East Coast handle technical education.
If the planning process goes well, the Appleton Technical Academy could open at West high school, in the fall of 2014.
