Hortonville schools holding forums on referendum
Voters in the Hortonville school district will decide a building referendum next month, and they'll get a chance to learn more about the proposed projects, during two community forums.
The first one is tonight, at Hortonville high school.
The school board is seeking nearly $25.5 million to build a new elementary school and transportation facility, on Highway JJ. The middle and high schools would also be expanded, and the district would upgrade security at all schools.
The district is holding tours at 6 p.m., and the forum starts at 7 p.m. The times will be the same next Thursday, at Greenville elementary.
Superintendent Heidi Schmidt says they're more informal events, and people will be able to go to different tables to get information about specific projects.
A second referendum question seeks $370,000 a year for operating costs, for the new elementary school.
If voters approve both of them, the tax rate would increase by 42 cents per $1,000 of value. That would be an extra $42 a year, for the owner of a $100,000 home.
