DNR may set limits on panfish

The DNR could create new rules for pan fishing in the coming years, and the agency is holding a meeting about the issue tonight, in Green Bay.

Fisheries biologist Steve Hogler says for years, they've had tight regulations for game fish, like walleye, northern pike, and bass, and they're considering doing the same for fish like perch and crappie.

Hogler says DNR officials across the state are getting input from the public this month, and they hope to have a preliminary proposal within a year.

He says the rules would affect the state's inland lakes. A different set of rules govern Lake Michigan and Green Bay.

Tonight's meeting starts at 6:30 at the Brown County library on Pine Street.
