SMC brings pope process into classroom
The search for a new pope became a big topic in the classroom at St. Mary’s Central high school.
Theology department chair Mark Constancio says it's a great teaching tool.
He says students learned about the traditions of the church, and some classes created their own March Madness-style competition. Constancio says all of those students picked their three favorite candidates, and then stated their case for one of them. He says the classes then analyzed their chances, based upon where they were from, and how many electors were from those areas.
Constancio says he had even more plans, so he's disappointed that the conclave didn't last longer.
Constancio says students watched as Pope Francis was introduced yesterday, and they were surprised by the choice.
