Option would allow some parking on Mason St.
There could be some changes to the proposed
bike lane plan for Mason Street in Appleton.
Public works director Paula Vandehey says because the terraces are wide enough in some spots, it's possible they could remove them to allow for a parking lane. She says they'll have to figure out whether that's a good idea, and then look at possible locations.
Vandehey says the width of the terraces vary, and at places like Grace Lutheran Church, they'd have to adjust, by shrinking the traffic and bike lanes a bit.
Vandehey says the city would also have to figure out how to pay for the work on the terraces.
The city's long-term plan for bike lanes considers the entire stretch of Mason Street one of the backbones to the system.
The initial proposal calls for removing all on-street parking, and that's generating opposition from some homeowners along the street.
The municipal services committee will debate the proposal again, next month.
