Ribble backs New Orleans police officer
A local congressman is supporting a former New Orleans
police officer's bid to be freed from prison, pending a retrial.
Wisconsin native David Warren was convicted for an on-duty shooting death, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A U.S. district judge ordered a new trial, after determining he should have been tried separately from four other officers.
Congressman Reid Ribble says after the case was brought to his attention, he did his own research. He says he flew to Louisiana, at his own expense, to have a face-to-face meeting with Warren.
The Sherwood Republican says he then wrote a letter to the judge, asking that Warren have the chance to be released on bond to spend time with his family, and prepare his defense.
Ribble said in his letter that Warren is regarded as a law-abiding citizen, and a devoted family man.
