Poodles, a station wagon and Downton Abbey?

Thursday, Feb, 21 2013

On my TV viewing docket for Thursday night will be a special one-hour "Parks and Rec" episode.

I like the show, and I especially like the character Ron Swanson, who plays up being a no nonsense "man's man" character.

I guess he must be a pretty good actor because the news I learned about the man today is nothing like the character he plays on the show.

His real name is Nick Offerman and he is doing a live comedy show in Milwaukee this weekend. Because of that there was an article in the paper about him which disclosed some facts about NICK that certainly are nothing like my image of RON on the show.

--He drives a station wagon he picked out because it had the highest safety rating he could find.
(I picture Ron as a guy with a rusty old pickup truck in bad need of a new muffler)

--He and his wife have three poodles...not exactly the kind of dog you would think a Ron Swanson would own.
(I picture Ron with some type of hunting dog with a slobber problem)

--And one of his favorite TV shows is Downton Abbey on PBS.
(Can you say the Red Green Show?)

What insane Ron Swanson news will I hear next....he actually prefers salads?????

Get a shotgun

Wednesday, Feb, 20 2013

Like I always say, the things you learn every day on the PhilCast.

Yesterday for example, we learned that the shotgun is Reggie the Executive Producer's weapon of choice.

Turns out that he and our vice president have that in common.

Joe Biden says we should get ourselves a shotgun for self defense.

That's how he says he rolls anyway.

We'll go over the audio and the circumstances of the safety tip from our veep on today's show.

It's also "Weigh-In Wednesday" on the PhilCast. If you are reporting along with us leave your progress report at the PhilCast Facebook fan page or my FB page as well.

Harrison?

Tuesday, Feb, 19 2013

I'm confused.

Being somewhat new to the area (and still waiting for our home in SE Wisconsin to sell before buying our house in the Fox Valley) I'm still learning all the little burbs and burg names, from Greenville to Grand Chute, from Kaukauna to Little Chute.

Harrison....an interesting case.

Is it a town or a village? That's up for debate and a vote in today's election. And while residents work that whole name thing out I am still trying to figure out exactly where Harrison is. And how does Darboy play into all this?

We'll chat it up as part of the Tuesday PhilCast. And if you live there I'd love to talk to you about it today on the show....give me a call.

What would Al Roker do?

Monday, Feb, 18 2013

Now there is actually scientific proof...

The 'bottom' line on in-flight flatulence is in and the experts say to let 'er rip!

Turns out that it's better for you to pass gas at 30-thousand feet than to hold it in.

Wait till you hear some of the suggestions for how to best deal with this issue.

We'll discuss on the Monday PhilCast, along with "Howz Yer Weekend?" and the story of a guy who slapped a crying kid on a plane...and it wasn't HIS kid either!

Talk to you this afternoon.

Picture & audio of the meteor hitting Russia

Friday, Feb, 15 2013

Yeah, these things hardly ever hit Earth, right?

There's pretty cool audio of this meteor crashing into Russia.

I used some of it to make an interesting open for the Friday PhilCast.

Check it out when we start today's show right after the 3:00 newscast with the latest on this story.

Also today, how Charlie Sheen shows his softer side, and it involves Wisconsin.

Plus, two of the three national finalists for making up a new flavor of Lays potato chip also have Wisconsin ties.

"Drip of the Week" brought to you by Watters Plumbing and the ReciPIPPA the Week also on tap.
