175 million to 1

Wednesday, Nov, 28 2012

So everybody's got their panties in a bunch about tonight's $500 million+ Powerball jackpot.

175 million to 1 odds you'll win.

What are the odds? I wonder what are the odds of other things happening that are better than 175 million to 1?

--Odds are better that the Bucks will win the NBA title this season.

--Odds are better that Honey Boo Boo will be made into an Oscar-winning movie.

--Odds are better that people will pick cauliflower over french fries.

--Odds are better that Ozzie Osborne will start making sense some day.

--Odds are better that Angus T. Jones will be back on Two and a Half Men next year.

--Odds are better that Bob Salm will ever retire.

--Odds are better that Joe Biden won't put his foot into his mouth ever again.

--Odds are better that Kim Kardashian will simply fade away.

--Odds are better that Lindsay Lohan will never be arrested again.

--Odds are better that O.J. will find the real killer.

...you get the idea.

Halfway 'Home'

Tuesday, Nov, 27 2012

There it is.

The sign I want to see on our house sooner than later.

I bring this up today because of some news about the housing market in this country:

"In another sign of a housing market rebound, home prices posted the biggest percentage gain in more than two years in the third quarter, according to the closely followed S&P/Case-Shiller index.

The 3.6 percent increase from a year earlier is more than three times the rise in the previous quarter and was the biggest jump in prices since the second quarter of 2010. But that 2010 rise was much more of a temporary blip caused by a homebuyer's tax credit of up to $8,000 on homes purchased in late 2009 and early 2010.

This latest rise comes as the housing market has shown numerous other signs of recovery in recent months. The rebound is spurred by a combination of record low mortgage rates, an improving jobs market and a drop in foreclosures to a five-year low, reducing the supply of distressed homes available. There is also a tighter supply of both new and previously owned homes on the market."

This SHOULD be good news for me personally, since we are halfway home to our new home in the Fox Valley. It has been a long and sometimes difficult process that continues to play out for us. Some of you have asked about our 'move' and I can tell you we at least have an offer on a place pending the sale of our home in Wauwatosa.

Meantime I continue to combine commuting and broadcasting from HBY South to bring you the PhilCast every afternoon. Here's hoping the news about the housing industry is real and that the market continues to improve.

We need a new name for today

Monday, Nov, 26 2012

It's "Cyber Monday". I said it last year and I will say it again this year while we still have a Cyber Monday...the term is outdated and we need a new name for this day.

Better yet, just dump it.
It makes no sense.

Cyber Monday was born back in the days when not everyone had a computer in their homes, let alone computers in their hands posing as cell phones.

Back then you had to wait until Monday to use the company's computer to shop instead of work.
It's ridiculous to call it Cyber Monday now based on those origins.

And in fact, I have a story today about how this post-Thanksgiving Monday is going to soon be surpassed by another even bigger on-line shopping day. We'll discuss.

Oh yeah, Pack Yak and that excuse for a football game to go over in the first hour of the PhilCast today with Rich Ratay.
I know it was bad.
I know it was ugly.
I know it will be difficult to narrow this down to just one thing that really bothered you from last night. But I have one thing that really got under my skin. You'll be surprised at what it is too.
