It worked for Dave Mathews...

Tuesday, Jul, 16 2013

...why not me?

I had to laugh today when I heard that the very thing that happened to me on a bike yesterday happened to Dave Mathews too, only with different results.

He had a flat tire while out riding his bike and a lady randomly pulled over to help him out with a ride, not knowing who it was at the time she pulled over.

Now why didn't my associate producer Peel do the same thing for me when he saw me roadside with a flat tire yesterday?

We'll hear from the Dave and the lady involved on the PhilCast this afternoon.

You listening Peel?

Back in the saddle

Monday, Jul, 15 2013

...and when I say 'saddle' I do NOT mean my bike saddle, which, in a way, is very sad to me. No time to be on my bike what with moving, unpacking and cleaning as I go at the new house in the Fox Valley. It's been a lot of hard work and it's not over yet. But I HAVE at least had some time in the evenings (thanks to my new DVR) to watch some of the Tour de France, which I will be talking about today.

THIS guy is leading, and it just so happens he was my pick to win it all at the start of Le Tour, which ends this Sunday in Paris.

But there are some shadows about the leader, although they are not fault of his own.

I'll discuss today on the show, as well as share a few stories about the big move.

Talk to you at 3-ish.

My big old bowl

Tuesday, Jul, 2 2013

As listeners know we have been packing up 21+ years of stuff over the past four weeks since selling our home in preparation for the move to the Fox Valley this month.

That's a lot of 'stuff' to go through.

Some things obviously make the trip to a cardboard box to come along.
But with other things it's not so obvious.

Sure, you have no reason other than sentiment to take something along that you haven't used let alone seen for the past eight years, and yet you can't just ditch it.

Case in point, this old bowl.

She ain't pretty, that's for sure.

She's very old. That's for sure.

We don't need to use it for anything. That's for sure.

Shouldn't it be 'for sure' that we ditch it? Why pack up and move something you don't need or use?

Memories. That's why.

I remember my childhood when I see this bowl. I can see my late grandfather and me watching the Green Bay Packers play while eating popcorn out of this bowl.

He didn't make just any popcorn mind you.
This was Sunday game day. This was special.
This was popcorn he made with bacon bits and bacon grease drizzled over the top.
He would always fill this bowl up a couple of times on game day.

There is no logical reason to tote this along to our new home.
But guess what?
I packed the bowl last night.
It's coming along.
