Appleton police say four people were hurt during an active shooter situation in the downtown Wednesday evening.
A police officer was shot and a firefighter was hurt while handling a medical call at the downtown transit center around 5:30 p.m.
All four people were taken to local hospitals. Police aren’t releasing the severity of any of their injuries, or whether all four people were shot.
Police Chief Todd Thomas says the scene is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Green Bay police are investigating with the help of several other agencies, including the state justice department.
Thomas believes they’ll release more information on Thursday.
